SOCO Construction managed the Powerhouse Arts District Creative Center project in Jersey City, New Jersey. It consisted of restoring the structural integrity of the existing building and beautifying the existing exterior facade, turning it into a vibrant destination for arts, culture, and creative expression.

Scope included a new ground floor slab, deep cleaning and repointing of the existing facade to match the historic district, structural reinforcements, a new roof, exterior/site upgrades, and the construction of new entrance ramps and stairs into the building. One entrance received a canopy overhang and both ramps received railings, stair nose edging, and a brick cladding. These elements, combined with new street lamps, ADA curbs/sidewalks, and bike paths, foster a walkable and community-centric environment.

Exterior and site upgrades included new windows and storefront, ADA curbs and sidewalks, bike path, concrete benches, street lamps, and fresh landscaping. It also included upgrades to new Electric and Water Utility services, and the re-support and restoration of the landmark chimney flue.

The art gallery interior consisted of a new concrete slab, located over the cellar that matches the existing first floor slab. It was constructed on new structural steel/decking built on top of newly driven 30 ft piles which offers a clean shell of approximately 10,000 square feet for future creative use.
