SOCO Construction managed the Powerhouse Arts District Creative Center project in Jersey City, New Jersey. It consisted of restoring the structural integrity of the existing building and beautifying the existing exterior facade streetscape.
Scope included a new ground floor slab, deep cleaning and repointing of the existing facade to match the historic district, structural reinforcements, a new roof, exterior/site upgrades, and the construction of new entrance ramps and stairs into the building. One entrance received a canopy overhang and both ramps received railings, stair nose edging, and a brick cladding.
Exterior and site upgrades included new windows and storefront, ADA curbs and sidewalks, bike path, concrete benches, street lamps, and fresh landscaping. It also included upgrades to new Electric and Water Utility services, and the re-support and restoration of the landmark chimney flue.
The new interior concrete slab, located over the cellar matches the existing first floor slab. This was constructed on new structural steel/decking built on top of newly driven 30 ft piles and gives a clean shell of roughly 10,000 sf for future use.
